5040 Vertical Turbine Pumps
5040 Series VT Vertical Turbine
A product line that nearly every pump manufacturer struggles with is, without a doubt, the dreaded vertical turbine. This is a complex pump with a variable number of stages and the option of selecting nearly any overall length dimension. It is for this reason that many manufacturers stay away from this product type all together or those that decide to offer it, do a horrible job at manufacturing and supplying it. Here at Ameriflo, we excel at this very challenging product line and offer the largest third party certified hydraulic coverage in the fire protection industry.
Performance Characteristics
- Sizes: 10 Inch to 22 Inch Bowls
- Flows: 100 to 8,000 GPM
- Pressures: 40 to 377 PSI
- Frequencies: 50 & 60 Cycle
- Speeds: 2950, 1760 & 1450 RPM
Vertical turbine pumps are perfectly suited for applications where a pool of water is the fluid source. This source can be fresh, brackish or sea water. Ameriflo can manufacture vertical turbine pumps out of standard materials but also offers a complete family of optional metallurgy for these demanding applications.
When Ameriflo developed the vertical turbine product offering, decisions were made to include specifiable features and benefits that set it apart from nearly every other pump manufacturer. Models feature:
- High tensile, ductile iron bowl castings
- Investment cast, 304 stainless steel impellers
- Double keyed impellers for ease in assembly and disassembly
- Double bowl wear rings (upper & lower) with hydraulically balanced impellers
- fully shrouded bowl shaft with removable and replaceable 304 stainless steel shaft sleeves
- Suction bell with removable and replaceable 304 stainless steel shaft sleeves
- Fabricated steel, flanged column assembly
- Fabricated steel, 300 PSI discharge head (4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 & 16 Inch Sizes)
- Unique packing housing design with removable and replaceable 304 stainless steel shaft sleeve and integrated throat bearing
Ameriflo vertical turbines can be supplied in an electric or Diesel engine driven option. For 50 cycle flow rates less than 300 GPM Ameriflo has a 2950 RPM third party certified model, the only 2 pole vertical turbine available in the fire protection market. Combining the Ameriflo 3000 RPM Diesel engines with a 7:4 ratio gear drives give an incredible cost advantage over other manufacturers.
Assembly and disassembly can be very challenging with regards to the vertical turbine product line. Ameriflo has incorporated several features into the design to aid in this process. Each column section has pads welded to the column to support the assembly during assembly or disassembly. All column pieces and discharge heads have integral lifting lugs for safe lifting of the subassemblies. All lineshaft couplings have flats machined onto the coupling. This allows for the use of non-destructive wrenches to hold onto the coupling that will not create damage (as is the case where maintenance personnel use pipe wrenches for this function). No collet hammers are needed as impellers are held to the shaft with a double key design.
As is the case with the other product lines manufactured by Ameriflo, full optional metallurgy is supported for sea water applications. These applications can be located on shore or off shore. Many bronze alloys, all 316 stainless steel, all alloy 2205 super duplex stainless steel and/or all alloy 2507 super duplex stainless steel materials are available. These options greatly increase the number of applications Ameriflo can cover and offers the client a total solution with a single source of supply. Lastly, all Series 5040 product can be supplied in GEN-PAC booster systems and containerized packages.
